MRPS6

Description

The MRPS6 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

MRPS6 (Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S6) gene encodes a protein involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondria. Mitochondria are cellular organelles responsible for energy production. Mammalian mitochondria have their own ribosomes (mitoribosomes) which consist of two subunits: a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. The MRPS6 protein is part of the 28S subunit, which also contains a 12S ribosomal RNA. MRPS6 belongs to the ribosomal protein S6P family and has pseudogenes on chromosomes 1p and 12q.

MRPS6 is also known as C21orf101, MRP-S6, RPMS6, S6mt, bS6m.
