MRPS11

Description

The MRPS11 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

The MRPS11 gene encodes 28S ribosomal protein S11, mitochondrial, a protein involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) are composed of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA content. While similar to prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA and have significant differences in protein sequences. The MRPS11 protein is part of the 28S subunit and shares sequence similarity with other ribosomal protein S11P family members.

MRPS11 is also known as HCC-2, MRP-S11, S11mt, uS11m.
