MRPL4

Description

The MRPL4 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The MRPL4 gene encodes for the 39S ribosomal protein L4, mitochondrial. This protein is involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondria, a key organelle responsible for energy production. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) are composed of two subunits, a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. The MRPL4 protein is part of the 39S subunit. Different versions of the MRPL4 protein are produced due to alternative splicing of the gene.

MRPL4 is also known as CGI-28, L4mt, uL4m.
