MRPL39

Description

The MRPL39 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L39) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

The MRPL39 gene encodes a protein called 39S ribosomal protein L39, mitochondrial, which plays a role in protein synthesis within mitochondria. Mitochondria are cellular organelles responsible for energy production. Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) are composed of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. The MRPL39 protein is part of the 39S subunit. It is one of many proteins that help the mitoribosome function correctly. There are two different forms of the MRPL39 protein, each produced from a different version of the MRPL39 gene. Additionally, a pseudogene (a non-functional copy) of the MRPL39 gene exists on chromosome 5q.

MRPL39 is also known as C21orf92, COXPD59, L39mt, L5mt, MRP-L5, MRPL5, MSTP003, PRED22, PRED66, RPML5, mL39.
