MRPL33
Description
The MRPL33 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L33) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
MRPL33 gene encodes a protein called 39S ribosomal protein L33, mitochondrial. This protein is involved in protein synthesis within mitochondria. Mitochondria have their own ribosomes, called mitoribosomes, which are made up of two subunits: a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. MRPL33 is part of the larger 39S subunit. The gene can produce different forms of the protein through alternative splicing, a process where different parts of the gene are combined to make different versions of the protein.
MRPL33 is also known as C2orf1, L33mt, MRP-L33, RPL33L, bL33m.
