MRPL30
Description
The MRPL30 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L30) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
The MRPL30 gene encodes a protein known as 39S ribosomal protein L30, mitochondrial. This protein is involved in protein synthesis within mitochondria, the cellular organelles responsible for energy production. It is part of the large subunit (39S) of the mitochondrial ribosome (mitoribosome), which is responsible for translating genetic information into proteins. Mitochondrial ribosomes are unique in their composition compared to ribosomes found in the cytoplasm of cells. Mammalian mitoribosomes have a higher protein-to-RNA ratio and lack a 5S rRNA, which is present in prokaryotic ribosomes. The MRPL30 gene has been found to have at least two different transcript variants that encode the same protein. Additionally, there are pseudogenes corresponding to this gene located on chromosomes 6p and 12p.
MRPL30 is also known as L28MT, L30MT, MRP-L28, MRP-L30, MRPL28, MRPL28M, RPML28, uL30m.
