MRPL13

Description

The MRPL13 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

The MRPL13 gene encodes mitochondrial ribosomal protein L13, a protein involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. It is a component of the large 39S subunit of the mitochondrial ribosome, which is responsible for translating genetic information into proteins. The mitochondrial ribosome is different from prokaryotic ribosomes in its protein-to-RNA ratio and the absence of a 5S rRNA. MRPL13 is essential for the proper function of the mitochondrial ribosome and, consequently, for mitochondrial protein synthesis.

MRPL13 is also known as L13, L13A, L13mt, RPL13, RPML13, uL13m.
