MRPL10

Description

The MRPL10 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The MRPL10 gene encodes a protein called 39S ribosomal protein L10, mitochondrial. This protein is part of the mitochondrial ribosome, specifically the large 39S subunit. Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis within the mitochondria. They have a different structure and composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, with a higher protein-to-RNA ratio and the absence of a 5S rRNA. The MRPL10 gene has two transcript variants that produce different protein isoforms. A pseudogene, a non-functional copy of this gene, is found on chromosome 5q.

MRPL10 is also known as L10MT, MRP-L10, MRP-L8, MRPL8, RPML8, uL10m.
