MPPE1

Description

The MPPE1 (metallophosphoesterase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

MPPE1 is a metallophosphoesterase essential for transporting GPI-anchor proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi. It plays a crucial role in lipid remodeling during GPI-anchor maturation by removing an ethanolamine-phosphate side chain (EtNP) from the second mannose (Man2) of the GPI intermediate. This removal is critical for efficient transport of GPI-anchor proteins.

MPPE1 is also known as Cdc1, PGAP5.
