MPHOSPH9

Description

The MPHOSPH9 (M-phase phosphoprotein 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

MPHOSPH9 inhibits the formation of cilia by attracting the CP110-CEP97 complex (a known suppressor of ciliogenesis) to the mother centriole's distal end in cells that form cilia. However, at the start of cilia formation, MPHOSPH9 is phosphorylated by TTBK2, which leads to its breakdown through the ubiquitin-proteasome system. This process removes both MPHOSPH9 and the CP110-CEP97 complex from the mother centriole's distal end, paving the way for cilia development.

MPHOSPH9 is also known as MPP-9, MPP9.
