MORC1

Description

The MORC1 (MORC family CW-type zinc finger 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

MORC1 plays a crucial role in spermatogenesis, contributing to the process of sperm cell development. It is essential for establishing new DNA methylation patterns and silencing transposable elements, which are DNA sequences capable of moving within the genome. This silencing is critical in male embryonic germ cells to ensure the stability and integrity of the developing germline.

MORC1 is also known as CT33, MORC, ZCW6.
