MOGAT3
Description
The MOGAT3 (monoacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
MOGAT3 is a human protein encoded by the MOGAT3 gene. It is an acyl-CoA:monoacylglycerol acyltransferase (MOGAT; EC 2.3.1.22) that catalyzes the production of diacylglycerol from 2-monoacylglycerol and fatty acyl-CoA.
MOGAT3 catalyzes the production of diacylglycerol using 2-monoacylglycerol and fatty acyl-CoA. It also facilitates the final step in triacylglycerol synthesis using diacylglycerol and fatty acyl-CoA as substrates. MOGAT3 exhibits a preference for palmitoyl-CoA and oleoyl-CoA. It is potentially involved in dietary fat absorption within the small intestine by catalyzing the re-synthesis of triacylglycerol in enterocytes. Additionally, MOGAT3 can utilize 1-monoalkylglycerol (1-MAkG) as an acyl acceptor for the synthesis of monoalkyl-monoacylglycerol (MAMAG).
