MOGAT1

Description

The MOGAT1 (monoacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

MOGAT1 plays a crucial role in the synthesis of glycerolipids, which are essential components of cell membranes and energy storage. It acts as an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of monoacylglycerol to diacylglycerol, a key precursor for triacylglycerol (fat). This process involves transferring an acyl chain from a fatty acyl-CoA molecule to the monoacylglycerol. Interestingly, MOGAT1 exhibits equal preference for both sn-2-monoacylglycerol and sn-1-monoacylglycerol as substrates, while showing lower activity with sn-3-monoacylglycerol. Although MOGAT1 is involved in lipid metabolism, it is likely not directly involved in the absorption of dietary fat in the small intestine.

MOGAT1 is also known as DGAT2L, DGAT2L1, MGAT1.
