MMP27

Description

The MMP27 (matrix metallopeptidase 27) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

MMP-27, also known as Matrix Metalloproteinase-27, is an enzyme encoded by the MMP27 gene in humans. It was discovered in 1998 and shares structural similarities with other MMPs, including a signal peptide, propeptide, catalytic domain, hinge region, and a hemopexin-like domain. MMP-27 is part of the stromelysin group of MMPs due to its homology with stromelysin-2 (MMP-10) and its chromosomal location. Like other MT-MMPs, MMP-27 has a unique C-terminal domain that might be involved in membrane association. MMP-27, like other MMPs, is involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix, playing a role in normal processes like development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes like arthritis and metastasis.

MMP27 is also known as MMP-27.
