MMP26

Description

The MMP26 (matrix metallopeptidase 26) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

MMP26, also known as matrilysin-2 and endometase, is an enzyme involved in breaking down extracellular matrix. It is encoded by the MMP26 gene. MMPs play a role in various processes, including development, reproduction, and tissue repair, as well as in diseases such as arthritis and cancer. MMP26 is produced as an inactive protein and is activated by other enzymes. It breaks down several proteins, including collagen type IV, fibronectin, fibrinogen, casein, vitronectin, alpha 1-antitrypsin (A1AT), alpha 2-macroglobulin (A2M), and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 1 (IGFBP). MMP26 also activates another MMP, called MMP9. Unlike most MMPs, MMP26 lacks a conserved C-terminal protein domain.

MMP26 is also known as -.
