MMP23B

Description

The MMP23B (matrix metallopeptidase 23B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

MMP23B is a gene that encodes a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. MMPs are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix during processes like embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in diseases like arthritis and metastasis. MMP23B is located on chromosome 1p36.3 in a duplicated region of the gene, and it is the copy closer to the end of the chromosome. MMP23B is strongly expressed in the ovary and heart.

MMP23B is also known as MIFR, MIFR-1, MMP22, MMP23A.
