MMP17
Description
The MMP17 (matrix metallopeptidase 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
MMP17, also known as MT-MMP 4, is an enzyme involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix. It belongs to the membrane-type MMP (MT-MMP) subfamily, and unlike most MMPs, it is GPI-anchored to the cell membrane instead of being secreted. MMP17 is responsible for activating MMP2, another important enzyme involved in matrix breakdown.
MMP17 is also known as MMP-17, MT4-MMP, MT4MMP, MTMMP4.
