MMP15

Description

The MMP15 (matrix metallopeptidase 15) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

MMP15, also known as MT2-MMP, is an enzyme encoded by the MMP15 gene in humans. It is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family, which are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix during normal processes like development and tissue remodeling, as well as in diseases like arthritis and metastasis. Unlike most MMPs, which are secreted as inactive proenzymes, MMP15 is anchored to the cell surface by a transmembrane domain or glycophosphatidylinositol linkage, suggesting it functions at the cell surface rather than being secreted.

MMP15, also known as MT2-MMP, is an endopeptidase that breaks down components of the extracellular matrix. It can activate progelatinase A.

MMP15 is also known as MMP-15, MT2-MMP, MT2MMP, MTMMP2, SMCP-2.
