MMP10

Description

The MMP10 (matrix metallopeptidase 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

MMP10, also known as Stromelysin-2 or Transin-2, is an enzyme involved in breaking down the extracellular matrix. It plays a role in normal processes like development and tissue repair, as well as in diseases like arthritis and cancer spread. MMP10 is produced as an inactive form and becomes active when cleaved by other proteins. It specifically breaks down proteoglycans and fibronectin. MMP10 is located on chromosome 11 and is linked to cancer stem cell activity and metastasis. It is also a potential indicator of how serious oral cancer might be.

MMP10 is also known as SL-2, STMY2.
