Description
The MLX (MAX dimerization protein MLX) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
MLX, also known as mlx, is a human gene that encodes a protein with various names, including Max-like protein X, Class D basic helix-loop-helix protein 13, Max-like bHLHZip protein, Protein BigMax, and Transcription factor-like protein 4.
MLX acts as a transcription regulator by forming a complex with other proteins, including MAD1, MAD4, MNT, WBSCR14, and MLXIP. This complex binds to a specific DNA sequence (5'-CACGTG-3') and regulates gene expression. Some of these complexes, such as those involving TCFL4, repress gene transcription. MLX is also involved in activating the expression of genes involved in glycolysis and is known to respond to changes in glucose levels.
