MGRN1

Description

The MGRN1 (mahogunin ring finger 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

MGRN1 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that mediates monoubiquitination of TSG101 at multiple sites in the presence of UBE2D1, but not UBE2G1 or UBE2H. This process is involved in regulating endosome-to-lysosome trafficking. MGRN1 also inhibits MC1R- and MC4R-signaling by competing with GNAS-binding to MCRs and inhibiting agonist-induced cAMP production. However, it does not inhibit ADRB2-signaling or promote MC1R ubiquitination. Furthermore, MGRN1 acts as a negative regulator of hedgehog signaling. These functions are supported by experimental evidence from various sources, including UniProtKB:Q9D074, PubMed:17229889, PubMed:19703557, and PubMed:19737927.

MGRN1 is also known as RNF156.
