METTL7B

Mettl7b: A Master Regulator in Myeloid Cells

Description

Mettl7b (methyltransferase like 7b) is an RNA methyltransferase enzyme that plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression, particularly in myeloid cells. It is primarily responsible for the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification of RNA transcripts, which influences their stability, translation, and localization.

Associated Diseases

Mettl7b has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several diseases, including:

  • Leukemia: In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), Mettl7b overexpression promotes cancer cell proliferation and inhibits differentiation.
  • Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS): Mettl7b dysregulation contributes to the development of MDS, a group of blood disorders characterized by abnormal blood cell production.
  • Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN): Mettl7b mutations are linked to MPN, a group of cancers that affect the bone marrow.
  • Autoimmune diseases: Mettl7b deficiency has been associated with autoimmune disorders such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Did you Know ?

Research has shown that Mettl7b expression is significantly increased in approximately 50% of AML patients and is associated with a poor prognosis.
