METTL21A

Description

The METTL21A (methyltransferase 21A, HSPA lysine) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

METTL21A is a protein-lysine methyltransferase that specifically adds three methyl groups (trimethylates) to certain residues within the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) family. It has been shown to contribute to the trimethylation of lysine residues in HSPA1 and HSPA8 in living cells. In lab experiments, it has been found to methylate specific lysine residues in various members of the HSP70 family, including Lys-561 in HSPA1, Lys-564 in HSPA2, Lys-585 in HSPA5, Lys-563 in HSPA6, and Lys-561 in HSPA8.

METTL21A is also known as FAM119A, HCA557b, HSPA-KMT.
