METTL18

Description

The METTL18 (methyltransferase 18, RPL3 N3(tau)-histidine) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

METTL18 is a protein-L-histidine N-tele-methyltransferase that specifically monomethylates RPL3, a ribosomal protein, thereby regulating translation elongation. The methylation of RPL3 slows down ribosome movement on tyrosine codons, allowing for proper protein folding and preventing aggregation of tyrosine-rich proteins.

METTL18 is also known as AsTP2, C1orf156, HPM1.
