Methadone
Description
Methadone is a synthetic opioid medication used to treat opioid addiction. It works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain, preventing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Methadone is typically taken orally, once daily. It has been a controversial treatment, with some arguing that it merely replaces one addiction with another. However, studies have shown that methadone can be an effective treatment for opioid addiction, reducing overdose deaths and improving quality of life.
