Memantine
Description
Memantine is a medication that is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer‘s disease. It works by blocking the action of a neurotransmitter called glutamate. Glutamate is involved in learning and memory, and it is thought that high levels of glutamate can damage brain cells. Memantine helps to protect brain cells from damage by blocking the action of glutamate. It is also being studied for its potential use in other conditions, such as Parkinson‘s disease, Huntington‘s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
