MED28

Description

The MED28 (mediator complex subunit 28) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

MED28 is an enzyme encoded by the MED28 gene in humans. It is a component of the Mediator complex, which functions as a scaffold protein that stabilizes a submodule within the head module of the complex. This submodule is involved in gene regulation and suppressing smooth muscle cell differentiation. MED28's role as a repressor of smooth muscle cell differentiation suggests its potential involvement in disorders related to abnormalities in smooth muscle cell growth and differentiation, including atherosclerosis, asthma, hypertension, and smooth muscle tumors. MED28 interacts with Merlin, Grb2, and MED26.

MED28 is also known as 1500003D12Rik, EG1, magicin.
