MED24

Description

The MED24 (mediator complex subunit 24) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The MED24 gene in humans encodes the Mediator of RNA polymerase II transcription subunit 24, an enzyme essential for the function of the Mediator complex, a transcriptional coactivator involved in the expression of virtually all genes. The Mediator complex, also known as TRAP, SMCC, DRIP, or ARC, is recruited by transcriptional activators or nuclear receptors to stimulate gene expression, potentially by interacting with RNA polymerase II and promoting the formation of a transcriptional pre-initiation complex. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.

MED24 is also known as ARC100, CRSP100, CRSP4, DRIP100, MED5, THRAP4, TRAP100.
