MED11
Description
The MED11 (mediator complex subunit 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
Mediator complex subunit 11 (Med11) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MED11 gene. Med11 is a component of the Mediator complex, which is a coactivator for DNA-binding factors that activate transcription via RNA polymerase II.
MED11 is a subunit of the Mediator complex, a vital coactivator that regulates transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator acts as a bridge, transferring information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the core RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. It is recruited to gene promoters through direct interactions with regulatory proteins and acts as a scaffold for assembling a functional pre-initiation complex along with RNA polymerase II and general transcription factors.
MED11 is also known as HSPC296, NDDRSB.
