MEAF6

Description

The MEAF6 (MYST/Esa1 associated factor 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

MEAF6 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MEAF6 gene. It is a chromatin modification-related protein.

MEAF6 is a component of several histone acetyltransferase complexes, including NuA4, HBO1, and MOZ/MORF. These complexes play a role in transcriptional activation by modifying histones, primarily through acetylation of H4, H2A, and H3K14. NuA4 acetylates H4 and H2A, which can alter nucleosome-DNA interactions and promote interactions with other transcription-regulating proteins. HBO1 complexes specifically acetylate H3 at lysine 14 (H3K14ac), while having reduced activity towards H4. The MOZ/MORF complex exhibits histone H3 acetyltransferase activity.

MEAF6 is also known as C1orf149, CENP-28, EAF6, NY-SAR-91.
