ME3

Description

The ME3 (malic enzyme 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

ME3 refers to the human gene for NADP-dependent malic enzyme, mitochondrial (NADP-ME), also known as Malic enzyme 3.

ME3 catalyzes the conversion of (S)-malate to pyruvate using NADP+ as a cofactor. This reaction is known as oxidative decarboxylation. ME3 can also reverse this reaction, but it does so with significantly lower efficiency.

ME3 is also known as NADP-ME.
