Description
The MCF2 (MCF.2 cell line derived transforming sequence) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.
The human MCF2 gene encodes the DBL protein, which is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that plays a crucial role in regulating the activity of small GTPases from the Rho family. The name DBL originates from "diffuse B-cell lymphoma," the cancer type where this gene was initially discovered as an oncogene. Alternatively, it is also known as MCF2, derived from "MCF.2 cell line-derived transforming sequence." DBL is the founding member of a large family of GEFs that share a common DBL-homology (DH) domain. This DH domain is responsible for activating Rho GTPases by facilitating the exchange of GDP for GTP, leading to their activation. DBL specifically activates the Rho family member Cdc42.
