MAPRE3

Description

The MAPRE3 (microtubule associated protein RP/EB family member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

MAPRE3 (Microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 3) is a protein encoded by the MAPRE3 gene in humans. It belongs to the RP/EB family and localizes to the cytoplasmic microtubule network. MAPRE3 binds APCL, a homolog of the adenomatous polyposis coli tumor suppressor gene.

MAPRE3 is a plus-end tracking protein (+TIP) that binds to the plus-end of microtubules and regulates the dynamics of the microtubule cytoskeleton. It promotes microtubule growth and may be involved in spindle function by stabilizing microtubules and anchoring them at centrosomes. MAPRE3 also acts as a regulator of minus-end microtubule organization by interacting with AKAP9 and PDE4DIP, which recruits CAMSAP2 to the Golgi apparatus, tethering non-centrosomal minus-end microtubules to the Golgi. This process is important for polarized cell movement. MAPRE3 promotes elongation of CAMSAP2-decorated microtubule stretches on the minus-end of microtubules.

MAPRE3 is also known as EB3, EBF3, EBF3-S, RP3.
