MAP3K13

Description

The MAP3K13 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 13 (MAP3K13) is an enzyme encoded by the MAP3K13 gene in humans. It belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family. MAP3K13 contains a dual leucine-zipper motif and forms dimers/oligomers through this motif. It can phosphorylate and activate MAPK8/JNK and MAP2K7/MKK7, suggesting a role in the JNK signaling pathway. MAP3K13 has been shown to interact with PRDX3.

MAP3K13 activates the JUN N-terminal pathway by activating the MAP kinase kinase MAP2K7. It also works with PRDX3 to control NF-kappa-B activation in the cytoplasm. This activation relies on its kinase activity and involves activating the IKK complex, specifically the IKBKB-containing complex which phosphorylates NF-kappa-B inhibitors.

MAP3K13 is also known as LZK, MEKK13, MLK.
