MAP1A

Description

The MAP1A (microtubule associated protein 1A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

MAP1A is a protein encoded by the MAP1A gene in humans. It belongs to the microtubule-associated protein family and is crucial for microtubule assembly, a key process in neurogenesis. The protein is synthesized as a precursor polypeptide that undergoes processing to generate the final MAP1A heavy chain and LC2 light chain. MAP1A expression is primarily confined to the brain, and studies in rats suggest its involvement in early spinal cord development. MAP1A has been shown to interact with DISC1.

MAP1A acts as a structural protein, forming filamentous bridges that connect microtubules to other components of the cytoskeleton.

MAP1A is also known as MAP1L, MTAP1A.
