MAGEA6

Description

The MAGEA6 (MAGE family member A6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

MAGEA6 is an activator of ubiquitin ligase activity in RING-type zinc finger-containing E3 ubiquitin-protein ligases, acting as a repressor of autophagy. It may enhance the ubiquitin ligase activity of TRIM28 and stimulate p53/TP53 ubiquitination by TRIM28, potentially through recruitment or stabilization of the Ubl-conjugating enzyme (E2) at the E3:substrate complex. MAGEA6 may contribute to tumor transformation or aspects of tumor progression, and in vitro studies have shown it promotes cell viability in melanoma cell lines.

MAGEA6 is also known as CT1.6, MAGE-3b, MAGE3B, MAGE6.
