MAGEA12

Description

The MAGEA12 (MAGE family member A12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

MAGEA12 is a protein encoded by the MAGEA12 gene in humans. It belongs to the MAGEA gene family, whose members share significant sequence similarity and encode proteins with potentially similar functions. The MAGEA genes are located on chromosome Xq28 and exhibit variability in their promoters and first exons, suggesting that they are regulated differently. Some MAGEA genes have been linked to hereditary disorders like dyskeratosis congenita.

The specific role of MAGEA12 in tumor transformation or progression is not fully understood. However, in vitro studies have shown that it can promote cell viability in melanoma cell lines, suggesting a potential involvement in tumor growth.

MAGEA12 is also known as CT1.12, MAGE12.
