Description
The MAGEA11 (MAGE family member A11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.
Melanoma-associated antigen 11 (MAGEA11) is a protein encoded by the MAGEA11 gene in humans. It is involved in the androgen and progesterone receptor signaling pathways. MAGEA11 is an androgen coregulator specific to primates. It was first discovered in human melanomas and has been linked to several cancers. It is observed in spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes, and in some prostate and breast cancers. This gene belongs to the MAGEA gene family, whose members encode proteins with 50 to 80% sequence identity. The promoters and first exons of the MAGEA genes show variability, suggesting that the gene family enables the same function under different transcriptional controls. The MAGEA genes are located at chromosomal location Xq28 and have been implicated in some hereditary disorders, such as dyskeratosis congenita.
