M6PR

Description

The M6PR (mannose-6-phosphate receptor, cation dependent) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

M6PR plays a crucial role in transporting phosphorylated lysosomal enzymes from the Golgi complex and the cell surface to lysosomes. Lysosomal enzymes carrying phosphomannosyl residues specifically bind to M6PR in the Golgi apparatus. This receptor-ligand complex then travels to an acidic prelyosomal compartment where the low pH causes the complex to dissociate, releasing the enzymes to their destination.

M6PR is also known as CD-M6PR, CD-MPR, MPR 46, MPR-46, MPR46, SMPR.
