LSM3

Description

The LSM3 (LSM3 homolog, U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation associated) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

LSM3, also known as U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSm3, is a protein encoded by the LSM3 gene in humans. Sm-like proteins are characterized by a conserved Sm sequence motif, which helps them form stable heteromeric complexes. These complexes are found in tri-snRNP particles, crucial for pre-mRNA splicing. LSM3 has been shown to interact with LSM2 and LSM10.

LSM3 is a component of the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex, which is essential for spliceosome assembly and the formation of the precatalytic spliceosome. The LSM2-8 complex, including LSM3, binds specifically to the 3' end of U6 snRNA, playing a crucial role in pre-mRNA splicing.

LSM3 is also known as SMX4, USS2, YLR438C.
