LRFN1

Description

The LRFN1 (leucine rich repeat and fibronectin type III domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

LRFN1 plays a crucial role in the development and function of synapses in the brain. It promotes the growth of nerve fibers (neurites) in hippocampal neurons, a brain region involved in memory and learning. LRFN1 also helps regulate and maintain excitatory synapses, which are the connections between nerve cells responsible for transmitting signals. It achieves this by organizing clusters of proteins that are essential for excitatory synapse function, including DLG4, DLGAP1, GRIA1, and GRIN1.

LRFN1 is also known as SALM2.
