LBP

Description

The LBP (lipopolysaccharide binding protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

LBP, or Lipopolysaccharide-binding protein, is a human gene involved in the innate immune response.

LBP plays a key role in the innate immune response by binding to the lipid A moiety of bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), a glycolipid found in the outer membrane of all Gram-negative bacteria. It enhances the affinity of CD14 for LPS, facilitating their interaction. This interaction triggers the release of cytokines in response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide.

LBP is also known as BPIFD2.
