LARP6

Description

The LARP6 (La ribonucleoprotein 6, translational regulator) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

LARP6 (La-related protein 6), also known as Acheron or La ribonucleoprotein domain family member 6, is a protein encoded by the LARP6 gene in humans. Recent genome-wide association studies have linked LARP6 to fasting glucose traits, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

LARP6 regulates the coordinated translation of type I collagen alpha-1 and alpha-2 mRNAs (CO1A1 and CO1A2) by stabilizing these mRNAs through high-affinity binding to a stem-loop structure in their 5' UTR. This regulatory process requires the presence of VIM and MYH10 filaments, as well as the helicase DHX9.

LARP6 is also known as ACHN.
