LAP3

Description

The LAP3 (leucine aminopeptidase 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

LAP3 is a cytosolic metallopeptidase that removes unsubstituted N-terminal hydrophobic amino acids from various peptides. Zinc ions are essential for its activity, and the presence of other cofactors can modify its substrate specificity. For example, manganese ions enhance its activity towards Cys-Gly-S-conjugates. LAP3 participates in glutathione metabolism and the breakdown of glutathione S-conjugates, potentially influencing the cell's redox state.

LAP3 is also known as HEL-S-106, LAP, LAPEP, PEPS.
