KRTCAP2

Description

The KRTCAP2 (keratinocyte associated protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

KRTCAP2, also known as KCP-2, is a subunit of the oligosaccharyl transferase (OST) complex. This complex is responsible for catalyzing the first step in protein N-glycosylation, which involves transferring a specific glycan from a lipid carrier to an asparagine residue within a specific sequence motif in newly synthesized proteins. This process occurs during protein synthesis and the OST complex associates with the Sec61 complex, which facilitates protein transport across the endoplasmic reticulum. All subunits of the OST complex are essential for its optimal activity. KRTCAP2 may play a role in the N-glycosylation of amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP) and may influence the cleavage of APP by the gamma-secretase complex.

KRTCAP2 is also known as KCP2.
