KRTAP9-7

Description

The KRTAP9-7 (keratin associated protein 9-7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP9-7, also known as KRTAP9-like 1, plays a crucial role in hair structure. It is a component of the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex, where it interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments. This interaction is vital for the formation of a strong and resilient hair shaft, achieved through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking between KRTAP9-7 and hair keratins.

KRTAP9-7 is also known as KAP9.7, KRTAP9L1.
