KRTAP5-11

Description

The KRTAP5-11 (keratin associated protein 5-11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

KRTAP5-11, a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP), plays a crucial role in forming the rigid and resistant hair shaft. It interacts with hair keratin intermediate filaments within the hair cortex, forming an interfilamentous matrix. This matrix is essential for hair structure and strength due to the extensive disulfide bond cross-linking between KRTAP5-11's cysteine residues and the hair keratins.

KRTAP5-11 is also known as KRTAP5-5, KRTAP5-6, KRTAP5.11.
