KRTAP5-1

Description

The KRTAP5-1 (keratin associated protein 5-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

KRTAP5-1, along with other keratin-associated proteins, forms an interfilamentous matrix that surrounds hair keratin filaments in the hair cortex. This matrix plays a critical role in providing structural integrity and strength to the hair shaft. The matrix proteins, including KRTAP5-1, are rich in cysteine residues, which form extensive disulfide bonds, further contributing to the hair's rigidity and resistance.

KRTAP5-1 is also known as KRN1L, KRTAP5.1.
