KRTAP4-5

Description

The KRTAP4-5 (keratin associated protein 4-5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP4-5, along with other hair keratin-associated proteins, forms an interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix is crucial for the structural integrity of the hair shaft, providing strength and resistance. KRTAP4-5's abundant cysteine residues enable extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins, contributing to the hair's rigidity.

KRTAP4-5 is also known as KAP4.5, KRTAP4.5.
