KRTAP4-12

Description

The KRTAP4-12 (keratin associated protein 4-12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP4-12, a hair keratin-associated protein (KRTAP), plays a crucial role in the formation of the hair shaft. It is part of the interfilamentous matrix that surrounds hair keratin intermediate filaments. This protein's abundant cysteine residues facilitate extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins, contributing to the rigidity and resistance of the hair shaft.

KRTAP4-12 is also known as KAP4.12, KRTAP4.12.
